About Marc's Lab
Marc's Lab started out in 2018 in the city of Rotterdam and is the place to think, experiment and develop for me, Marc Bliek.
My professional background is a dual degree in the Merchant Marine - Navigational Officer and Marine Engineer. I served on oceangoing vessels, mostly gas tankers, for several years. The nature of this career is extremely wide: from satellite technology and celestial navigation all the way down to the shipboard waste systems.
From there I moved on to develop my own ideas, aiming to better this world just a little bit. Naturally the focus is on environmental issues as they affect the human experience and quality of life - and most urgently, climate change mitigation. Whatever our opinions might be, out environment is changing - and my training makes me perfectly suited to work on these challenges.
Some of the ideas I worked on:
• an ocean-based hydrostatic compressor in order to extract atmospheric carbon dioxide.
• a ‘pingo’ style floating island to keep flood-risk areas level and above water.
• hydroloop – an underground transport tube, filled with water.
• Chirurgical repair of asphalt road damage.
• Low Vacuum Evaporative cooling.
• Fram Strait ‘speed bump’ to keep young Arctic see ice contained in the Arctic Ocean.
